The History of Flagellation is a very rare book, a true collectors item. It was written by Jacques Boileau (1635 – 1716)  who was a French clergyman and theologian. The book was printed in 1784, I don’t know anything about the illustrators. Writers were believed to be more important than artists so it seems.
